More Than a Studio. A Starlights Family.
Since October 2020, MJ’s Starlights Baton & Dance Studio has been a place for children in York, Pennsylvania, to discover their abilities, build friendships, and grow in confidence. Through baton twirling, dance, pom, acro, and modeling, we encourage every student to take pride in their progress and find joy in performing.
Every Student Has a Place to Shine
Every child brings their own personality, strengths, and pace of learning. We strive to create a welcoming, nurturing environment where students feel supported as they try something new, work through challenges, and celebrate accomplishments—both big and small.
We celebrate the first successful twirl, the courage to perform in front of a crowd, and the determination to try again after a difficult practice. Those moments help students discover what they can achieve.
Learning Beyond the Routine
Our lessons extend beyond choreography and technique. Students practice teamwork, responsibility, respect, and perseverance. They learn to encourage one another, celebrate a teammate’s success, and understand how their effort contributes to the group.
From community parades to the competition floor, we want our students to represent the Starlights with kindness, pride, and good sportsmanship.
Our S.H.I.N.E. Values
Sportsmanship: Show respect and kindness in practice, performance, and competition.
Help Others Grow: Encourage teammates and celebrate their progress.
Inspire Through Integrity: Be honest, responsible, and someone others can count on.
Never Stop Improving: Keep learning, practicing, and trying again.
Excel Through Engagement: Participate with focus, enthusiasm, and a willingness to grow.
A Message from Ms. Missy
“My hope is that every child who walks through our doors feels welcomed, encouraged, and proud to be themselves. Watching our students gain confidence, build friendships, and support one another is what makes this studio so special to me. The trophies are exciting, but the growth and memories behind them mean even more.”
Together, we are perfectly Starlights.
My journey with baton and dance began at age 12, when I spent a few years with Kay’s Reflections. I returned when my oldest daughter was five, and my time with Kay continued until my fourth daughter was born in 2019.
Following the COVID shutdown, Kay decided to retire. Many of the girls weren’t ready to say goodbye to something they loved—the twirling, the friendships, and the joy of being part of a team. I wanted to help keep that experience alive for them, so I offered to start MJ’s Starlights.
In October 2020, our story began.
What started as a way to keep the girls doing what they loved has grown into our own Starlights family. Kay’s Reflections holds a special place in my story, and I’m grateful for the experiences that helped bring us here.
My hope is that every child who joins MJ’s feels welcomed, supported, and encouraged to grow. Beyond the routines and performances, I want our students to build friendships, believe in themselves, and make memories they’ll carry for years to come.
Together, we are perfectly Starlights.
